Nifty continues to face downside risk! Nifty 200-DMA at 24071 mark.

# Nifty remains depressed amidst the 50% US tariffs hike on India. India VIX at 12.15.

1) Nifty bulls were still seen non-committed and even after receiving massive drubbing which has brought Nifty below its 100-DMA at 24675 mark.

2) Investors seen apprehensive and still are marinating the impact of the 50% Trump’s tariff on India which came in effect on Wednesday, August 27th.

3) Meanwhile, India’s GST Council is scheduled to meet on September 3 and 4 to discuss reducing tax rates on various goods and services.

4) Wall Street seen on the rise after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s hinting at Jackson Hole of a September rate cut.

Well, September rate cut looks to be a done deal. But, we suspect, the Federal Reserve will look at the incoming data points before slashing the rate on September 17th.

The incoming data which we would like to spy with one big eye:

a) The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index (which is the Fed's preferred inflation gauge) will trickle in on Friday, August 29th.

b) The US Jobs report to be wired on Friday, September 5th.

So, Fed’s commitment to independence will be watched closely watched amidst the heat from President Donald Trump and White House officials to lower rates.

5) Technically speaking, Nifty’s immediate support seen at 24336 mark (August 8th low). Below 24336 mark, Nifty’s biggest support is seen at 24071 mark.

Hurdles at Nifty 24750 and then at 24921 mark. Confirmation of strength only above 25155 mark.

# TODAY’S MARKET RE-CAP:

1) Nifty (-0.85%) receives massive drubbing as concerns of Trump’s tariff hikes on India emerge. Nifty continues to trade way below its 21 DMA (24727), 50 DMA (25006) and 100-DMA (24675) and also way below the psychological 25000 mark.

2) Bank Nifty (-1.16%) nosedived traded absolutely listless and most importantly was seen slightly underperforming. Bank Nifty’s new all-time-high continues to be at 57628.40 mark.

3) The market breadth (12:38) was in favor of bears.

4) The Nifty Mid-cap (-1.05%) and Nifty Small-cap (-1.47%) indices too witnessed unwinding of long positions.

5) Amongst sectoral indices ending in red were NIFY IT (-1.53%), NIFTY DEFENCE (-1.6%) and NIFTY REALITY (-1.36%) while sectors ending in green were Nifty CONSUMPTION (+0.49%).

# Bottom-line: Nifty will look for fresh positive catalysts to move, Confirmation of strength only above 25000 mark. Until 25000 is hurdles, downside risk for Nifty seen at 24071 mark.

# STOCKS IN SPOTLIGHT:

1) Adani group’s trailing twelve-month (TTM) EBITDA rose nearly 10% year-on-year to ₹90,572 crore through June 2025. This marks the first time the portfolio crossed the ₹90,000 crore milestone. Quarterly performance also touched new highs, with first-quarter FY26 Ebitda climbing 3.3 per cent to ₹23,793 crore.

2) Jaiprakash Power Ventures was in limelight after the company’s board considered a proposal to explore options for building a 50 MW solar power plant.

3) InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) tumbled 5.22% on Thursday, after Gangwal family offloads 3.1% stake via block deal.

4) Power Mech Projects plunged 3.5% after the company secured a significant order worth Rs 370.84 crore from Mahan Energen (MEL), a subsidiary of Adani Power, for civil and structural works at its upcoming thermal power project in Madhya Pradesh.
