Weekly Market Wrap: Saturday, August 16th 2025
# Before we start, the biggest positive catalyst for next week’s trade: Next-gen GST reforms by Diwali, says PM Modi; just two rates: 5% & 18%.
Amidst this backdrop, expect Nifty to simply jump out of the gate.
# Meanwhile, Nifty (+1.10%) eked out narrow gains in the week gone by, snaps its 6-week losing streak.
# Bank Nifty (+0.61%) mostly mirrored Nifty’s rebound action and also snapped its 6 week losing streak.
# The broader markets too witnessed massive rebound as the Nifty Mid-cap 50 index gained 1.94% while the Nifty Small-cap index inched up 0.68%.
# Nifty 200-DMA at 24047 mark.
# Dow Jones hits new record highs, joining the conga-line of all-time-high record highs of Nasdaq & the S&P 500.
# Week Ahead – August 18th
# Moving forward, the 4-key catalysts which will command investors’ attention:
1) Investor attention will remain squarely focused on President Trump’s trade war after he announced a nearly 50% tariff on Indian imports.
2) India’s unemployment rate for the month of July would be announced on August 18.
3) India’s Manufacturing PMI, the Services PMI and the Composite PMI values for the month of August would be unveiled on August 21.
4) The FOMC Minutes would be released on August 20.
# The Gyan Mantra: Nifty’s 200 DMA at 24047-mark acts as a very good support and hopefully, the benchmark reclaims it psychological 25000 mark and then all eyes at Nifty 25700 mark.
